Juan Azel, Co-Chair of Winston’s FinTech, Banking & Payments Group, has 25+ years of legal experience in Florida, working in AmLaw 100 firms and in-house at global banks. As Co-Chair of Winston’s FinTech Group, Juan leads teams advising financial institutions and FinTechs in compliance and regulatory matters. Most recently, he represented Santander in its partnership with Verizon to offer Verizon customers high-yield savings accounts at Santander’s digital banking platform, Openbank.
Juan also serves as General Counsel to the Financial & International Business Association (FIBA) and is a member of the Legal Advisory Committee of the American Fintech Council. He has been recognized as a leading lawyer in banking and FinTech by numerous credentialing organizations, including The Legal 500 Latin America, Lawdragon, The Legal 500 US, The Best Lawyers in America®, and City Leaders – Miami.
Prior to joining Winston, Juan served as Deputy General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer at Cross River Bank, one of the country’s most active FinTech financial services organizations, and as General Counsel for Standard Chartered Bank (Americas – Private Bank) and BBVA Private Bank (Americas).

Bernadete is a founding partner of CGM Advogados acting in the corporate and M&A areas and is responsible for the firm’s life sciences group. She has vast experience in serving clients in the healthcare, industrial, retail, technology and cosmetics sectors, having assisted numerous international companies in the legal conduct of their operations in Brazil, including in the relationship with distributors, agents, shopping centers, research institutions and hospitals. Her practice includes advising on commercial contracts, regulatory compliance in supplementary health and sanitary matters, incorporation of companies (including regulated activities), mergers and acquisitions and cross-border transactions. She has also represented clients in cases related to product liability, advertising, and regulatory matters involving the Federal Council of Medicine and health surveillance agencies, both at the national and local levels.
Bernadete taught Contracts at the graduate course at PUC-SP from 2006 to 2008 and was a visiting professor at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, in Chicago, USA, from 2014 to 2016.
